The Government of Liberia says it plans to recruit 22 young professionals to support the country’s upcoming service on the United Nations Security Council.
Information Minister and Government Spokesperson Jerolinmek M. Piah made the disclosure during the government’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
He said preparations are advancing ahead of Liberia’s assumption of its non-permanent seat on the Council in New York.
Minister Piah said the recruitment will take place through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The selected Liberian professionals will serve at Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in the United States.
According to him, the initiative seeks to strengthen Liberia’s diplomatic representation and improve the country’s capacity to carry out its Security Council responsibilities.
Minister Piah also disclosed that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is expected to preside over a session of the United Nations Security Council in December as part of Liberia’s engagement during its tenure.
Liberia was elected on June 3, 2025, to serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026 to 2027 term.
The government says the recruitment forms part of broader preparations to ensure Liberia contributes meaningfully to global peace, security, and diplomacy during its two-year term.
